Shopify

Connect Shopify and a draft can answer order questions with the customer's real orders: what they bought, what they paid and what has shipped. Overdesk only reads from your store. It never changes an order or issues a refund.

Customer context is part of the Pro and Scale plans, and of the free trial. See Overview for how lookups work.

What a draft can cite

  • The customer's name, found by the address they wrote in from.
  • Their most recent orders, up to 10: what was bought, what was paid, and what has shipped.
  • How many orders they have placed and what they have spent with you in total.

What you need

The connection uses an Admin API access token from a custom app in your Shopify admin. Shopify stopped letting stores create those apps on 1 January 2026, so this works for a store that already has one.

  1. In Shopify, open Settings, then Apps and sales channels, then Develop apps, and pick the app.
  2. Make sure it has read access to Orders and to Customers, install it, and copy the Admin API access token.
  3. In Overdesk, open Integrations and choose Shopify.
  4. Enter your store's myshopify.com address in Store domain. Your own domain does not work here.
  5. Paste the token into Admin API access token and click Connect.

Overdesk tests the token against your store before saving it, and names any permission that is missing.

Shopify shows orders from the last 60 days unless the app also has read access to all orders. Grant that too if your customers ask about older purchases.

If your store has no custom app

A store with no custom app from before that date cannot get a token that lasts: apps built in Shopify's Dev Dashboard receive one that expires about every day. If that is your store, email hello@overdesk.io and tell us about your setup.
