WordPress.org forums

If you publish WordPress plugins, your team may answer as many questions on the WordPress.org support forums as in your help desk. Overdesk imports the threads your team has answered there into the knowledge base, where you can browse and search them alongside everything else.

Add your plugins

  1. Open Settings → Knowledge base.
  2. Under WordPress.org forums, enter each plugin's slug in WordPress.org plugin slugs, separated by commas.
  3. Select Save on that card.

The slug is the last part of the plugin's address on WordPress.org: for wordpress.org/plugins/my-plugin/ it is my-plugin. Enter the slug itself, because a full web address in the field is ignored.

The first sync starts shortly after you save, and the forums are checked every night after that. An admin can sync at any time with Sync forums on the Knowledge base page.

What Overdesk keeps

Overdesk keeps a thread only when the plugin's author or support team has replied in it, and stores the customer's question together with the last of those replies. It starts from the most recent threads on each forum rather than the full history, then picks up new threads on each sync.

Contact details in a thread, such as email addresses, are replaced before it is stored, because forum posts are written by members of the public.

Imported threads appear under Forum threads on the Knowledge base page. See Browsing the knowledge base.
