Add your Anthropic API key

Overdesk writes its drafts, triage and report commentary with Anthropic's Claude models, using an API key that belongs to you. Anthropic bills your account directly, so your cost follows your ticket volume and you stay in control of it. Nothing is drafted until the key is saved.

Create a key

1. Sign in at console.anthropic.com.
2. Open Settings, then API keys, and create a key.
3. Copy it. Anthropic keys start with sk-ant-.

Save it in Overdesk

1. Open Settings → AI. You can also paste it during setup, in the Configure AI step, as Anthropic API key (required for drafting).
2. Paste the key into Anthropic API key and choose Save.

Overdesk checks the key with Anthropic when you save it. A key Anthropic rejects is refused on the spot, so a typo shows up now rather than as a silent failure later. A saved key is stored encrypted and never shown again: the field reads Configured, and to change the key you paste a new one and save.

Only owners and admins can save the key.

What happens next

Saving the key switches on the automations that need it. Within a minute of finishing setup, Overdesk creates their schedules, which you can see on Schedules:

• Auto-draft replies, every 15 minutes
• Auto-triage, Follow-up nudges and Score drafts against replies
• Weekly summary and Weekly insights email, plus Morning briefing on the trial, Pro and Scale

Drafting also needs your docs site and the inboxes you want drafted, which the next two pages cover. Follow-up nudges on conversations waiting for a customer's reply do not use your docs, so they start as soon as the key is in.

What it costs, and where to see it

A quiet inbox costs close to nothing. Indexing your knowledge base is covered by Overdesk and needs no key from you.
