Google Docs

Connect Google Docs and pick the documents that hold your team's knowledge, such as setup guides, policies or troubleshooting notes. Overdesk adds them to the knowledge base so drafts can answer from them. It can open only the documents you choose. The rest of your Google Drive stays invisible to it, including anything you add later.

Connect and choose documents

  1. Open Integrations and choose Google Docs.
  2. Select Connect. Google opens so you can approve Overdesk.
  3. Back in Overdesk, select Choose documents and pick one or more documents in Google's picker.

Overdesk starts syncing the documents you picked straight away. Each time you choose more, they are added to the list, and nothing already on it is replaced. Only admins can connect Google Docs and choose documents.

The picker offers Google Docs only. Folders appear so you can find your way around, but you pick documents, not folders. One Google account can hold up to 50 documents.

If the picker does nothing

Google's picker needs third-party cookies. If Google asks you to sign in, or nothing happens after you choose a file, allow third-party cookies for google.com and switch off any blocker on the page, then try again.

Removing a document

Select Remove next to a document to take it off the list. Its content is deleted from the knowledge base on the next sync, which starts right away, and the document itself is untouched in Google. A document you delete in Google leaves the knowledge base on the next sync too.

What Overdesk never does

Overdesk only reads. It never edits, renames, moves or deletes a document. Contact details in a document, such as email addresses, are replaced before it is stored.

Your plan

A Google Docs connection counts as a single knowledge source, however many documents it holds. See Plans and pricing.

Disconnecting

Disconnecting Google Docs deletes everything it put in the knowledge base, along with your list of chosen documents. If you connect again, you start from an empty list.
